JULIA LLOYD
Julia Lloyd
This journey is led by Julia Lloyd, a respected and experienced primatologist who has spent a number of years living and working in Kibale with a team of researchers, habituating and studying primates. Her knowledge of the chimps, her passion for Gorillas, and her dedication to the conservation of the regions great apes, will not only enlighten you, but also inspire you to join her in the fight for their continued survival in these forests.
Julia Lloyd is currently studying her PhD at Makerere University in Uganda, having gained previous field experience in Tanzania and other habitats in Uganda. She was approached by the Jane Goodall Institute to manage the collaborative Kibale Primate Habituation Project in 1998 and from then on the Ugandan rangers taught Julia how to track and follow the chimpanzee’s, understanding their unique behavioral pattern. It was during this time that her interest in primate behaviour and conservation developed and after being involved in chimp research for over 3 years, decided to explore research eco-tourism as a tool for primate conservation.
After returning to the UK to complete her MSc, she then came back to Uganda to study the impacts of tourism on chimpanzees for her PhD. This research not only allows Julia and you to investigate a unique topic as well as try out a novel way to conserve chimpanzees by understanding the context in a bigger picture.
She has also recently been awarded the Alison Jolley Prize by the Course Committee of the MSc in Primate Conservation at Oxford Brookes University for her Contribution in Primate Conservation. Well done Julia!
