  • This primate studies trip is led by an experienced and passionate primatologist, Julia Lloyd, (as seen on the recent BBC Holiday Programme) who will give you privileged insight into the Great Apes and other wildlife of Uganda as well as the warmth and hospitality of the Ugandan people.

  • The trip aims to show you the conservation efforts being made to sustain the Chimpanzees and Mountain Gorillas of each region.

  • A contribution is given from each primate safari to sustain community conservation efforts in Kibale National park, the Virungas and includes a year’s membership to the Jane Goodall Institute.

Explore the incredible diversity of Uganda’s people, its Chimpanzees and Gorillas, in the company of one of the region’s top primatologists.

Uganda is a land of true contrasts, where the Eastern savannah meets the Western African jungle with dramatic effect. No other African destination has the range of habitats that can be seen in Uganda which offers some of the most varied wildlife experiences possible and attracts the more special interest wildlife enthusiast.

Whilst most primate tours concentrate on the countries most famous residents, the Mountain Gorillas, Uganda also has one of the richest primate habitats in the world, with the forest home to wild chimpanzees, great apes and 13 other primates. The national parks also house huge herds of ‘plains’ wildlife more commonly associated with East Africa. and with over a thousand bird species, Africa’s top birding destination, a trip to Uganda makes for one of the most diverse wildlife experiences on earth. Little wonder we like to keep it a bit of a secret!

This primate safari, led by Julia Lloyd, one of the most enthusiastic primatologists and ‘Ugandaphiles’ you are ever likely to meet, aims to go beyond the conventional tours, and give you real insight into the Great Apes of Uganda as well as some of the other wildlife in this unique region. Furthermore, her love for its peoples will allow you to enjoy traditional Ugandan hospitality and view community conservation initiatives to get a real feel for the warmth of its people.

Furthermore the primate study tour aims to help fund one of the Kibale community conservation initiatives overseen by Julia, as well as offering a year’s membership to the Jane Goodall Institute.

This Trip Supports..

Jane Goodall Institute

This study tour is designed to feed into Julia Lloyd’s community orientated projects in Kibale. As a result a financial contribution is made to her projects within the Kibale region, helping to relieve some of the issues that surround the park, details of which you will see when you are in this area on the tour.

Furthermore you will become a member of the Jane Goodall Institute for one year for your participation.

Your payment for Gorilla permits in Uganda has an immediate result. The entire Uganda Wildlife Authority is funded off the back of the Park permits, including 10 reserves in total, and part of the park fee (included in the costs) goes back to community enterprises in Bwindi itself.
