  • Explore pristine reefs and enjoy tidal walks all led by qualified marine rangers.

  • You can spend time with wild dolphins, indigenous colobus monkeys and sea turtles.

  • We do not promote or endorse the large scale resorts being sanctioned on the island.

  • We can tailor-make an itinerary that suits your wallet, wanderlust and curiosity.

Arabic Spices, White sands and Coral reefs

The evocative Spice Island of Zanzibar is a romantic and eclectic concoction of Persian, Oriental, African, European and Arabian influences from colourful cultures, exotic foods and some of the finest turquoise beaches and coral reefs in East Africa.

Old Stone Town itself contains a medley of distinctive Swahili Arab architecture, narrow winding alleys and jostling bazaars.

The island is also blessed with banana and clove plantations, forests of mangroves and Mkwamba shrubs which still harbour an endangered species of red colobus monkey.

The rich waters along the coast are also teeming with abundant sea life for snorkelling and diving, comfortably enjoyed from lovely boutique resorts, lodges and hotels.

The best months to visit are from July to March each year.

Weather
Zanzibar has a tropical climate and very bright sunshine.

Ruled by the movements of the Indian Ocean monsoons, the seasons of Zanzibar change with the winds. The north-east Monsoons blow from November through December and again from February and March. The rainy season falls between the two monsoon seasons, in mid March, with a short spell in November. Being a tropical island, it can be humid, but the sea breezes that wash over the island bring cooler air and relief from the hot, damp weather.

Temperatures do not fluctuate much – the average daytime temperatures are in the region of 26C/79F from June to October and about 28C/82F from December to February. The minimum temperature in this tropical climate is 18C/64F with a maximum as high as 40C/104F.

Mainland Extensions
Selous, Serengeti, Lake Eyasi, Ngorongoro Crater, Katavi, Mahale and Ruaha National Park all offer stunning wildlife experiences should you wish to extend your visit to Tanzania. We can combine internal flights and accommodation in a luxury tented safari camp to complete your visit.

Children
Children are welcome at most of the above destinations. You can choose to have your room prepared as a triple, subject to availability. Chumbe is particularly good for children – they can learn much about the reef and the life of the coral in a safe and fun atmosphere.

Visas and Health
Visas are required for visits to Tanzania/Zanzibar. As GP for the most up-to-date information.

Note well
Zanzibar is predominately a Muslim community – please respect this by dressing conservatively when travelling away from the beach areas. This applies for men and women.

All the accommodation and services we use are chosen by us because they are supportive of their local environment and community, are small and personally run, and reflect the unique character of the island itself.

Your tailormade holiday will be coordinated by our agents in Zanzibar and expertise will be available for activities and sightseeing from each resort or hotel you are staying at.

Should you wish to get direct feedback from any number of our numerous clients who have enjoyed Zanzibar, as a holiday destination or as part of a safri with us please do contact us and we would be delighted to help put you in touch.

Chumbe island was the real highlight. Some stories to tell the grandchildren, I would not hesitate to recommend you to a friend.
