Back to where it all began-follow in the footsteps of Dian Fossey and track these magnificent creatures in the mists of the Virunga mountains.
Enjoy this amazing opportunity to see gorillas in Rwanda, a beautiful and fertile country, and home to over half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas. These beautiful creatures live in a tiny oasis of ever-decreasing forest located in The Virunga National Park in northern Rwanda and it is here, that you come face to face with some of our closest living relatives – the silverback gorillas.
Spending time with these magnificent creatures is a privileged pleasure that will be one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life.
Not only will you return with magical memories of the immense size of the silverback gorilla, the playfulness of the juveniles and the gentleness of the wild gorillas as a whole but you will be touched by the new optimism and vitality of the Rwandan people working hard to rebuild their communities and livelihoods.
Discovery Initiatives was one of the first operators to start taking clients back to view gorillas in Rwanda and it remains one of our favourite.
The aim of this tour is to see the mountain gorillas but also to allow you to get a better understanding of their fragile environment and the issues that local people and other wildlife face.
Your participation on this tour helps fund a variety of community and conservation initiatives in the country through the International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP), and includes a trip to the remains of Dian Fossey’s original research station at Karisoke, where she undertook her groundbreaking work as well as a visit to her final resting place in the forest.

Our Feedback
‘This is just a quick email to thank you so much for giving me the experience of a lifetime.
I loved every second i was in Rwanda it really is the most beautiful place on earth and trekking the gorillas was truly exhilarating. There are no words to explain the feeling when i came across the gorillas and spending time with them. It really was a dream come true and i thank you for making it possible.
I also want to tell you how impressed i was with the handling of my trip. It become obvious to me that your not in this business just to solely make money but that you truly care about your customers and want them to have a experience of a lifetime as i did. If only all businesses were run like discovery initiatives the world would be a wonderful place.’

Thank you for the wonderful trip. You provided an excellent and caring service which we appreciated very much. You did your best to keep us happy and for everything to go smoothly (right up to the last minute!). Your general knowledge about Uganda and its wildlife gave us a deeper enjoyment of the trip. We cannot imagine receiving better treatment from anyone. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts,

What I appreciated most was being treated as a individual and not a tourist.
