Get off the beaten track, be at one with the people and wildlife, with either a Tailormade expert driven tour or on a self drive safari in remote and beautiful Northern Namibia

Namibia is a land that offers a very different vision to that normally portrayed of Africa. It was here infact that Africa’s first national park was proclaimed in 1907 so it makes sense for this to be one of a pioneering tour in collaboration with Namibia’s foremost conservation pioneers.

Led by a knowledgeable guide, this unique journey aims to give you a privileged insight into Northern Namibia, its people and its wildlife. You will experience and come to understand first hand the visions behind Namibia’s farsighted wildlife conservation efforts, a tour combining stays at well-appointed lodges together with comfortable mobile camping. You will be journeying through one of the most dramatic landscapes of Namibia. Frequently, you will be travelling off well defined tracks and roads, following dried riverbeds and crossing open plains, taking everything that you need in fully equipped Land Cruisers.

Adventure across the Damaraland and deep into the Kaokoveld, a wild and remote landscape and Namibia’s least inhabited area. The region is one of the last refuges of the black rhino, which still thrives here, and the area is also home to desert-adapted elephant. The Kaokoveld is the land of the Himba and you will have the chance to speak to the leaders behind the community conservation area of Purros and visit traditional Himba settlements as you journey north. You will end your tour on a boat in the Kunene River on the Angolan border.

This tour helps fund IRDNC in their community wildlife initiatives, Save the Rhino Trust and the AfriCat Foundation.

Caesar was born and bred in Namibia, where he grew up with his geologist father. Introduced at an early age to the empty unspoiled spaces of the country the call of the wild began a lifelong fascination with the natural world.

A conservationist and expert on Namibian flora and fauna, particularily the Desert Elephants, Caesar has led numerous expeditions throughout Namibia. We have had teh most amazing trip and thank you so much for your careful arrangements and organisation. It is a stunning country with lovely, lovely people and we did such a variety of things – something special each and every day.
Bill and Yyonne Goodall July 2007.

Northern Namibia is hot and dusty. But it’s also the place of dreams. The scenery is stunning, the people are as hospitable as any I have ever met. They are people with very little apart from the environment they inhabit. And what an environment ! I’ll never forget meeting the Himbas in as a desolate place as there can be in Africa. They sang and danced as if we were the first tourists whom they had ever seen. Perhaps we were!

It was driving back to our campsite from meeting them that I first saw my first true desert elephants. The matriarch was digging with her foot in the dried river bed for water. But probably the highlight for me was tracking black rhino. And finding them!

The trackers were superb, the sightings better than I could have ever imagined. This trip was not only a holiday but more of an exploration, experience and an adventure. And probably even more important, great fun! Thank you Discovery Initiatives.
