  • The ability to include both nature, scenery and beaches within the same itinerary

  • Friendly Malagasy people who offer a warm welcome

Holidays in Madagascar reveal the astonishing natural bio-diversity of this unique ‘continental’ island and you will soon understand what makes Madagascar one of the most exciting destinations in the world. Madagascar is the world’s fourth largest island. It lies 400 kilometres off the east coast of Africa and offers diverse and spectacular scenery: Here mountains, deserts, rainforests, dazzling beaches fringing the Indian Ocean and island archipelagos are linked by coral reefs and clear turquoise waters.

Isolation and evolution have resulted in a fascinating mix of the bizarre and beautiful, 90% of the plants and animals of Madagascar are found nowhere else on earth! Isolated from the continents 160 million years ago, Madagascar wildlife followed a unique evolutionary path into enormous tortoises, elephant birds, and lemurs, which were the highest primate form on the island until the Malagasy people, of Afro-Polynesian ancestry, and the first Madagascar culture arrived 2000 years ago.

On a Madagascar holiday enjoy the wonderful beaches with small and often boutique style hotels from where you can enjoy some spectacular diving and snorkelling, whale watching and turtle hatching. Inland in most wilderness regions the accommodation is perfectly comfortable but not luxurious, but if you are keen to go where few fellow travellers have been, and see wilderness and creatures unlike anywhere on earth – then a Madagascar tour it is.

It’s a wonderful destination for the adventurous traveller and the Island has a rich culture with Malagasy’s who are renowned for their friendliness.

Best time to take a Madagascar holiday

Madagascar has three main climatic zones, the eastern rainforests, the western tropical dry deciduous woods and the semi-arid south, and the best time to go varies according to what you want to see and do. September and October is the breeding season for the lemurs, the rainy season from January to March is good to view reptiles and amphibians, July to September the Humpback whales migrate up the coastline and for the birds September to December is best. For beaches and sun year round on the coasts.

Transport, Accommodation and food

Travelling in Madagascar is not for everyone. The infrastructure is poor and tourism is in its elementary stages. Exact schedules, tight itineraries and luxurious accomodation cannot be guaranteed. However, if you are flexible and looking for the unexpected, if you want to meet an extraordinary people, then go and discover this fascinating island! Food is good, often locally grown or produced.

Visas and vaccinations

Visas are required for entry into Madagascar but they can be obtained on arrival in Antananarivo. A full passport is required and it is recommended that this is valid for up to six months from return date of travel. We recommend the following inoculations: typhoid, tetanus, hepatitis A. Malaria is present in Madagascar. It is important that you consult a medical practitioner.

Our Madagasy representatives, ground agents and accommodation providers are chosen for their commitment to responsible tourism and more specifically their commitment to wildlife conservation, where this is possible, though accommodation choice is often limited.

With only a very small amount of its original forests still standing, responsible wildlife tourism, and the economics of ecotourism will help to secure the future of these remaining forests in the face of increasing agricultural and population pressures.

Joining us is one step closer to an altogether better holiday.

On our Madagascar tours you will travel with a bilingual guide and driver and expert guides and naturalists in the wilderness regions you visit with us are picked up in each region.

All our ground agents and regional representatives are chosen to ensure that we do not compromise on this expertise and experience.

Our aim is always to give you real insight into the natural world of this unnormal Eden.

“Dear Fiona, We had a wonderful time in Madagascar. We especially liked the trip to Evatra. The Hotel Sakamanga was perfect for us. It was hot at Berenty and we liked Fort Dauphin because of the location. The trips into Perinet and Mantadia National Parks were fabulous although we didn’t see any aye ayes! Thank you for setting up our trip. You did a wonderful job!.”

“Just to let you know, we had a fantastic time in Madagascar. Your representative was superb. Our complex itinerary was seamless, and our guide (Mamy) and driver (Donnat) were both excellent. I’m pleased to say we saw loads of lemurs and humpback whales, and got acquainted with the fascinating Malagasy culture.”
