Saturday 7th to Thursday 19th March 2009

From £3775 per person inclusive from the UK (tbc)

  • Join an expert wildlife film maker and author to uncover the adventures of India’s most well known hunter turned conservationists.

  • Gain an insight into the relationship between wildlife and the people of the local villages on the fringes of the national parks.

  • Explore the foothills on foot and enjoy stunning mountain views during your search for wildlife.

  • Visit villages, exact spots and museums that are specifically relevant to the life and writings of Jim Corbett.

This 14 day expert led tour gives you the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of one of the most influential writers on Indian wildlife and conservation of the 20th century. Starting in Delhi, this journey takes you to the Himalayan foothills and Corbett National Park to try and spot your own tiger, and then explore areas brought to life in many of Jim Corbett’s novels, including his famous Man eating Tiger and leopard hunts.

Although well known as a keen hunter and fisherman, Jim Corbett was a pioneering conservationist who gave lectures to stimulate local awareness of the need to conserve forests and their wildlife. Corbett helped create the Association for the Preservation of Game, the All-India Conference for the Preservation of Wildlife and also established India’s very first national park.

Accompanied by wildlife film maker and self confessed Corbett fan, Dan Freeman, the group will study and follow text and visit sites from well known books such as “The man eating leopard of Rudraprayag” and “The Maneaters of Kumaon” this trip gives you a unique insight in to the region. The people of the region were very dear to Corbett and we also aim to build the relationship between wildlife and local people. The tour contributes to the Corbett Foundation.

Dan Freeman

Inspired by listening to Jim Corbett’s man-eating stories on the radio, the young Dan saved up his pocket money and bought all the books. He reads them today as avidly as he did then and this inspiration set out hs career in wildlife filmaking.

Dan Freeman has been a writer, producer and director on some 40 wildlife documentaries including man eating tigers of the Sundarbans of India and Bangladesh, piranhas in the Llanos of Venezuela, elephants in Botswana and pandas in China. He has published five books and is currently writing a semi-autobiographic account of his adventures around the globe.

This is a one off tour, so we do not have feedback specifically from this tour. For feedback on our huge range of Wildlife tours across India please see any of our other journeys and Tiger tour programmes.
