Tanzania is for many, the ultimate safari destination. With over 25% of the country protected in national parks, harbouring an incredible 20% of Africa’s entire large mammal population, this tour offers you quite simply one of Africa’s most incredible wildlife experiences.
By running this trip during February, not only do we manage to avoid the summer crowds, but this also gives you the chance to experience the spectacular wildebeest calving on the southern plains of the Serengeti.
You will also be exploring the world famous Ngorongoro Crater, home to some of the highest density of game in Africa, including the rare black rhino. However, this trip offers so much more and as with any successful wildlife trip, it comes down to the guiding, which is why Stephen Mills’ tours are always so popular. Working alongside him are some of the most experienced and knowledgeable guides in the country, allowing you to get the most from this fascinating and hugely diverse country.
Finally, as with all our tours, a percentage of the money raised from this trip helps support numerous conservation and community initiatives through locally owned lodges, community enterprises and donations to various wildlife charities. By travelling with Discovery Initiatives you are helping to support Save the Rhino’s work in Tanzania and receive an annual membership to the organisation itself.

Field Expertise
Stephen Mills
Stephen Mills has been a professional naturalist all his working life. As a leading wildlife film-maker he has been nearly ‘eaten’ or ‘trampled’ on by most of the world’s big animals. More recently he has been leading trips to many destinations for Discovery Initaitives including Namibia, India and Tanzania.
“My special interest is in all aspects of animal behaviour. Sharing insights like this is genuinely rewarding and when my guests go home even more enthusiastic than when they set out, the job feels really worthwhile.” Sustaining enthusiasm helps to keep conservation on the boil.
Stephen has made over 30 television films, has worked on major BBC series like Land of the Tiger, and The Private Life of Plants and is a past chairman of the International Association of Wildlife Film-makers. He also writes in BBC Wildlife Magazine. He recently published a beautiful book entitled ‘Tiger’.
We have been operating in Tanzania and East Africa for over 10 years now, but this is a one off small group tour programme, hence we have not had feedback directly from this trip. Should you wish to have feedback on any other Stephen Mills trips we run or any of our other tours please do ask us for details or view other trips that we run across the globe.
