Tailormade holidays in India are journeys of astounding variety. Culture, heritage and wildlife combine to create an unforgetable adventure tailored to suit your own wanderlust and budget.

There is no doubt that the Indian sub-continent is one of the greatest wonders of our world where a populace of over a billion lives in relative harmony. Glorious scenery, spectacular wildlife and a heritage of architectural wealth spans centuries and mirrors a mosaic of civilization and religion. Make the most of your visit by combining your interests. See the splendour of palace fortresses in Rajasthan, view the temples of Tamil Nadu, explore the endless lush plantations and backwaters of Kerala, visit the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, trek in the Himalayas or simply take time out on a white palm fringed beach at the end of your trip. As well as the breathtaking beauty of the Taj Mahal, there are still many hidden gems and we are happy to advise you on some of the less trodden paths.

The wildlife is unique, captivating, and forever fascinating. Although Tigers capture most of the attention India has wider variety of mammals than you could enjoy on a safari in Africa, Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhino, and Buffalo. The snow capped Himalayas house rare creatures like snow leopard, musk deer and the arid Great Indian Desert in the Northwest supports the Indian Wild Ass and Ratel. Cloudforests and swamps of the east shelter Bengal Tiger, Clouded Leopard, Indian elephant, Greater one horned Rhinoceros and Hoolock’s Gibbon. The Western Ghats are home to some of Asia’s densest rainforests. The forests of the central highlands in Madyha Pradesh are home to most of the Tigers left in India, together with wolves, wild dogs, Gaur, leopards and a host of deer and antelope. The Asiatic lion still lives in the forests of Gujarat. Running all along the peninsula’s coastline is some of the world’s finest coral formations and marine life including whales and dolphins.

There is a breadth and variety of wildlife and culture to inspire both the first time traveller and the experienced Indian connoisseur. Call Rupert on 01285 643333 to discuss a unique and personal itinerary.

The best time to travel

The climate in India varies, from the arid deserts of Rajasthan to the cool highlands of Assam. India has a three season year. The hot, the wet and the cool. The Cool, November through to March is when it is most pleasant to travel. There are regional variations. Trekking regions are best from May to September.

To optimise your chances of seeing the best of Indian wildlife and Tigers it is best to travel between November and April. November and December is pleasant when it is still green and lush, but searching is harder but all the more pleasant when you see it, and less touristy. January is colder and you will need to wrap up on game drives in the mornings, but pleasant when it warms up. February and March are good as it is the hotter weather (up to 35C) and drier ground that brings Indian wildlife including Tiger to water. April and May are very hot but this brings wildlife to water.

The South is slightly different with comfortable temperatures most of the year. April and May are a good time for the Southern parks bringing elephants herds and other wildlife to water.

Health and Fitness

India is best enjoyed if you are reasonably fit and healthy. Some of your most enjoyable experiences will be wandering around palace castles, sightseeing in places like Jaipur and Udaipur, or walking in wilderness and tribal areas, and to appreciate all this it is better to be reasonably healthy. We recommend the following inoculations: typhoid, tetanus, hepatitis A and polio. Malaria is endemic in India, so expert advice is therefore essential. Please consult a medical practitioner.

Food

Today you can expect a delicious and sumptuous fare, both very Indian (with its regional differences) and also European food when in hotels, specific lodges, heritage palaces, resorts or specific homestays. Vegetarians will be easily catered for. Bottled water is everywhere, and food in such accommodation is safe to eat.
