Africa’s wildest safari lands

Enjoy a Tanzania safari holiday in this land of huge, rolling game parks and the most lovely people, with its wealth of wildlife and natural history encounters.

On safari in Tanzania you will experience breathtaking sceneray, a magnitude of wildlife unlike anywhere else in the world and an African culture little changed over the last century of colonisation.

Cutting in from the north, the Great Rift Valley divides the country from north to south creating a fascinating string of lakes whose waters, during the breeding season, attract large numbers of flamingos to their saline waters. In the late dry season Tarangire seethes with huge herds of elephants, while in the far north migratory wildebeest flood in their millions into the vast Serengeti, creating the world’s greatest wildlife safari spectacle.

The great caldera of Ngorongoro is alive with game, while in the west, Lake Victoria conceals deserted and forgotten islands. The southern parks, such as Selous and the magical Ruaha, remain off the beaten track and the chimpanzee haven at Mahale being even further afield. For those wanting more adventure, the mountains of Kilimanjaro, Meru, Usambara and Undzungwa have good trekking.

Then there is always the option of ending a Tanzania safari on its coast or on Zanzibar where the Bantu and Arab cultures merge with some of the best beaches in the world.

Family safari holidays in Tanzania

It’s a wonderous wildlife destination for adventurous teenage families, with family friendly safari lodges, good guiding and tribal interaction and excellent sea and snorkelling in Zanzibar or on the coast.

Finally each safari holiday makes a contribution to Save the Rhino and Tusk Trust, as part of our commitment to conservation in Tanzania.

Best times to travel

July to October is the best time to visit the northern parks. The southern parks are good all year round, although especially in the dry months from July to October. The climate is hot and dry with very low humidity.

The best months for watching the Migration across the plains of the Serengeti are from May to July when the plains are fresh and green, and then again from November to March when they return to calve.

The Western Park including Mahale and Katavi are also at their best from August to the end of October.

Visas and health

Visas are required for entry into Tanzania for British, European or American citizens. They can be obtained either before travel or on arrival however please contact your local embassy for advice before travelling. A full passport is required and it is recommended that this is valid for six months from return date of travel. A yellow fever certificate is essential and we recommend the following inoculations: typhoid, tetanus, hepatitis A. Malaria is present in Tanzania It is important that you consult a medical practitioner.

Fitness and Health

A reasonable level of fitness is required to enjoy any safari, especially walking. Walking is though optional on any safari, and other activities are arranged if you do not want to do all the walking.

“Difficult to choose just one highlight – on the first day on safari in the serengeti we saw the migration of the wilderbeast. The general level of hospitality and the beautiful surroundings at the palms on Zanzibar. We appreciated the personal touch, great knowledge, and enthusiasm of your staff.”
Sarah Smith & David Maddock on their honeymoon to Tanzania and Zanzibar June 2007

“Chris Johnston was really good at discussing what we were looking for and then making the arrangements..the itinerary was fantastic and with the expertise of our safari guide Felix – he was always conscious of the surroundings and being respectful of the local people of Tanzania, and taught us loads about the people, animals, plants and landscape they inhabit.”
