Ecuador is divided into four distinct regions, from the Pacific Coast, to the Andes, the Amazon watershed and the Galapagos islands. It’s a nature traveller’s paradise, a ‘megadiversity’ of flora and fauna, and it has considerable variation in climate.
The Amazon Basin, is luxuriant with several indigenous ethnic groups. The Ecuadorian Andes form a mountain chain that bisects the country north to south with many snowcapped peaks and volcanoes exceed 5000m. The region also contains several Inca sites, historic cities and towns and artisan centres and several national parks. 600 miles off the coast lies the famous Galapagos islands.
The best times vary for mainland Ecuador but Galapagos can be visited all year round.
