CANADIAN ARCTIC
Canada Arctic Expeditions
The Canadian Arctic Archipelago, situated in the northern extremity of North America, covers about 1,424,500 km² and represents one of the wildest places on earth. Extending some 2,400 km from West to East and 1,900 km from the mainland to Cape Columbia, the northernmost point on Ellesmere Island, it is bounded on the west by the Beaufort Sea; on the north by the Arctic Ocean; on the east by Greenland, Baffin Bay and Davis Strait.
Consisting of a group of over 36,500 rugged islands, the region makes up much of the territory of Northern Canada – most of Nunavut and part of Northwest Territories and despite it's seemingly barren environment, harbours a rich variety of wildlife. Killer whales and narwhals swim the cold oceans, whilst walrus and polar bears rule the frozen lands. Whilst we concentrate on Hudson Bay for our Canadian Arctic wildlife and marine expeditions, the various islands are separated from each other and the continental mainland by a series of waterways collectively known as the Northwestern Passages.
This is a truly wild region inhabitated by the Inuit and despite a past of oppression, spending time in the Arctic with these natural survivors is to see them in their natural element. A pioneering tour to one of the most unexplored regions on the planet, where a flexible attitude and a sense of adventure is a must!
