MBELI CAMP
Mbeli Camp, Republic Of Congo
Reached by 4WD and a somewhat cramped pirogue journey along small tributaries ofthe sangha river, even before you arrive at Mbeli, you know it is remote. Currently the only accommodation available in the park and used as a base for many of the Wildlife Conservation Society researchers in the area, this simple, rustic camp consists of 4 wooden, twin bed chalets, raised from the forest floor with a small veranda and washing area. Facilities are basic but clean, with long drop toilets and buckets for showers although these are about 5 metres from the main room, so a torch is essential. Whilst there is no denying that the forest can at times seem all encompassing, Mbeli offers the chance to submerge yourself in the rich forest around you and experience the wonder of the creatures that live here.
